SEJNY DISTRICT WELCOMES

THE SEJNY LAND IS RICH IN:
- intact and not urbanized nature located far away from the city traffic, ecological environment; 103 clean fish lakes (most of them with the 1st class of purity), silence zone (Galadus lake with the area of 737 hectares),
- wonderful forest complex, including part of the biggest compact forest complex in Poland – Augustow Primeval Forest (area of 1100 km),
- Wigry National Park with the Wigry Lake crossed by Hancza River,
- clean air, 25 times less polluted than the country’s average.

The Sejny land offers ideal conditions:

  • active and healthy rest,
  • practise water or winter sports in the silence zone,
  • devote yourself to fishing, mushroom and blueberry picking, cooking regional meals,
  • recreation for the groups of children and teenagers (camps) practise canoeing on a wonderful water route; Czarna Hancza river and Augustow Canal (joins two rivers Biebrza and Niemen, built in 1824-1839, in Poland 80 km long, the level of the water between numerous lakes is engineered by the locks) twists and turns across the primeval forest.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
  • The Wigry National Park with its wonderful phencmenon of natur, such as the Wigry lak and over fifty other lakes, sixteen reserves of flora and fauna, didactic routes, the charms of Ihe Augustów forest, makes you experience many esthetic and pleasing feeiings.
  • Wigry. This well known post monastery complex of the Canwduls’ Order was founded in 1694–1745. Untfl the beginning Of the 19in century monks resided there and receivetf the most honorable guests Irk kings and princes. Nowadays ft fs the House of the Artistic Works of the Ministry of Culture.
    From the 8 until the 10 of June 1999 tn pope John Paal II, during the another pilgrimage to his homeand, resled at the monastery. The pope's apartment is still accossible for the tourists.
  • The Suwaki Landscape Park is the odest landscaped park in Poland (sice 1976). The post–glader sight occupies numerous hills, nVer villeys and lakes. The park is rich in flora and fauna, weU deveioped and labeled tourist routes and perceptive paths.
  • The Canoe Route of The Czarna Hacza. River is the most interesting water tourist route in Poland. It shows In charms of the meandering river which flows through the Augustów forest and which is the tributary to the Niemen rfver. The length of the Czarna Hacza is 142 km. 108 km of ft belongs to Poland. There ar campsites on the river such as Wysoki Most, Fracki and Jaowy Róg.
  • The Augustów canal is a wonderful hydro-graphic structure built in 1824-1839. It links two rivers, Biebrza and Niemen. On the Polish terrain the length of the canal is 80 km. ft con-sists of 14 locks which leve) tn depth of the water between the lakes and the canal.
